It’s the last of the charts, this is the end of the Carnet bleu ! I mean, I have some left in between the ones I published but they didn’t have so many different tunes that the ones featuring in the charts here. So it’s a goodbye to 1982 with Lamont Dozier’s nice and sweet "Shout About It", François Kevorkian doing a masterpiece with Rafael Cameron’s "All That’s Good To Be" with his great violon stabs. Wait, there’s "You Got The Power" by WAR ! My fave is Empress’ "Control Yourself" and of course "Make Up Your Mind" by Aurra. Special shout out to "Breakaway" by Pure Energy !

Quand j’habitais dans ma chambre de bonne au 42, rue Bonaparte, j’avais une toute petite radio et tous les lundi je crois, j’écoutais les charts de RTL anglais. Le Disco Import Show était un Top 20 des disques qui marchaient dans les clubs anglais, une sorte de reflet très fidèle de ce qui influençait les clubbers et c’est à partir de ces charts, par exemple, que j’ai fait la découverte de Jazz Funk anglais, qui n’était pas connu en France - on ne trouvait pas les disques, à part Rah Band et quelques autres. J’ai retrouvé récemment le cahier bleu où je notais, semaine par semaine, ces charts. Souvent, je ne connaissais pas les noms des groupes, je les notais d’une manière presque phonétique. Je me suis dit que ça serait un bonne chose à mette sur le net, puisque maintenant on trouve la plupart de ces titres sur YouTube.
PS : quand je mets un ? c’est que je n’ai pas réussi à comprendre ni le nom du groupe, ni le titre du morceau. pffff !

15 novembre 1981Lots of new entries there with that yummy "Flasback" by Imagination and around the bottom of the charts : Teena Marie (go girl), Mel Brooks (go Jewish King, go !) and G.Q, some crazy instrumental by K.I.D with that crazyfunky choon but Prince is leading the pack here with a major "Controversy".

12 octobre 1981Oh girl ! What a great line-up ! I loved the masculine feel of Bob James and those 40’s chorus vocals, it was so cool, sans shoving it down your throat, real Jazz quoi. And Arthur Adams is N°1 ! And Donal Byrd is N°3 ! And EWF is back from Disco Sucks ! And another hit from Imagination ! But kick me with a rhythm stick if you don’t like that Eveling King stomper ! But my fave is still this huge thang by Junior Giscombe, BRITISH FUNK ! Gee, I see now how influenced I’ve been by those years.
